Warwickshire CCC hire new Head of Media and Communications to lead high-impact strategy at Edgbaston.
Overview
Founded in 1882, Warwickshire CCC is one of England’s most historic and forward-thinking county cricket clubs, based at Edgbaston Stadium. The Club continues to play a central role in the evolution of the sport, underpinned by innovation, sustainability, and community focus.
Challenge
Following the ECB’s sale of The Hundred franchises, Warwickshire CCC entered a period of growth, creating new roles across data, ticketing, partnerships, marketing, and communications.
The Head of Media and Communications was a key hire, responsible for leading media strategy, managing press operations across Warwickshire CCC and Birmingham Phoenix, and acting as the Club’s spokesperson. The role required strong traditional media expertise to complement an established digital function.
The position was based full-time at Edgbaston, requiring a strong on-site presence. The focus was on candidates already local or open to relocating, alongside a preference for individuals with a background in sport and strong stakeholder credibility.
Solution
Warwickshire CCC had worked with EISG previously and were keen to re-engage for this project, which included multiple new roles across departments. EISG managed the entire hiring programme, assigning each role to consultants based on their specialist swim lanes — enabling a fast, targeted approach with expert coverage and market insight.
The search for the Head of Media and Communications was led by Lena Stroem, who specialises in marketing and communications roles within sport. Lena built a targeted headhunting approach focused on passive candidates with strong media expertise and a proven track record within sport. Lena prioritised individuals with existing Midlands ties or a willingness to relocate and focused on traditional media skillsets to complement the Club’s digital team.
Regular weekly updates between EISG and the Club’s Head of People and Culture ensured transparency and alignment throughout the process.
“We focused on candidates with traditional media expertise who could operate as the face of the Club and take a lead on press strategy and stakeholder engagement.”
– Lena Stroem, Consultant, EISG
