Job Description

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Partnership Sales Manager to join a major Birmingham based football club. Joining a growing Partnership team, you’ll need a strong understanding of the sponsorship landscape, ideally in professional sport.

This position will play a key role in the partnership sales process for the Club in the UK, both in terms of national partnerships and multi-market partner deals with brands across the world.

The focus for the successful candidate will be on acquisition of new partners - prospecting, pitching, negotiating and securing new partners. The position will be based in Birmingham, and report to the Head of Partnerships, but will also require regular travel, particularly to London.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the Head of Partnerships in the strategic leadership of the club’s roster of Partners.

  • Contribute to the strategy for partnership sales, and then execute to generate new business opportunities.

  • Own, maintain and develop a pipeline of prospective partner brands; coordinating weekly status meetings with relevant internal stakeholders and delivering regular status reports to the Head of Partnerships.

  • Target, pitch and sell tailored partnerships to identified target brands.

  • Engage and develop relationships with potential partners at a senior decision-making level.

  • Maintain an understanding of the sales and marketing activities of prospective clients, as well as the strategic direction of their business, markets and competitors. Create integrated marketing proposals that will meet these objectives. These will include IP, social and digital media, promotional, and event-based assets.

  • Build business cases to demonstrate investment returns for potential partners. Work with internal departments and external agencies to ensure that all proposals and pitches are supported by rigorous analysis.

  • Maintain an awareness amongst the Club of activities that could be supported or integrated into partnerships rights package and identify and analyse business opportunities for the Club.

  • Maintain a strong understanding of advertising and marketing channels and technologies to understand potential client solutions.

  • Be creative to adapt current marketing programs to keep up to date with market changes and create new initiatives to suit market needs.

  • Engage with sports marketing agencies representing potential partner brands.

  • Negotiate partnership agreements including pricing and risk around partner products to be used by the Club.

  • Work closely with the legal department    to manage complex partnership transactions through to completion.

  • Management of own P&L centre.

  • Ensure that all home match days are adequately resourced to support sales opportunities, for example hosting Partner guests or joining stadium tours.

  • To manage any other commercial transactions as required. This may include overseas tour agreements,  affiliate deals, deals with media providers or advertisers,   negotiation with other media purchasers

      Desired Skills and Experience

  • Successful track record in sales within an international business

  • Strong understanding of the sponsorship market and a network of relationships across all sectors of the sponsorship landscape.

  • Experience in technology and digital advertising in sports is preferred.

  • High level connectivity – client side and sponsorship community in general.

  • Ability to develop creative solutions which will meet the objectives of prospective marketing partners.

  • Business knowledge – being up to date with business trends across various markets and industry sectors.

  • International thinker and operator – someone who is appreciative of other cultures and business practices

  • Strategic thinker – able to shape, develop and execute the strategy for a diverse region

  • Ability to present ideas and concepts at all levels with conviction and sound reasoning.

  • Strong negotiation skills and commercial awareness.

  • Process driven with strong analytical and research skills.

  • A credible communicator, adept at operating at Board/Senior Executive level and with excellent presentation skills.

  • Commercially minded and results driven – ability to meet and exceed sales targets

  • Proactive attitude and a self-starter who takes initiative.

  • Ability to manage a team and develop good working relationships.
