Marketing Managers are the key to every sports organisations communications; creating and delivering content and managing relationships with sponsors, fans and other key stakeholders to satisfy their needs for your service. Getting the word out is a marketer’s primary focus and they distribute the required message to the market through the most relevant channels including the organisations website and social media networks. 

Marketing Managers will typically have come through the marketing ranks to reach this level, often from a marketing or business-related degree progressing to executive and on to manager level and likely from a sports marketing background although this is not always essential. Marketing Managers have a strategic mind and need to look one step ahead to ensure they take the brand to market in the most appropriate way. Marketing has both a creative and analytical side to it, with Marketing Managers often having to make decisions on copywriting, imagery and creative direction for the good of the brand. Analytically marketing roles have a strong focus on data and statistics to analyse the performance of any particular output, be that a website, social media posts, blogs.... the list is unending! 

At manager level in the marketing space, marketers also need to have good skills in budgeting. Often setting out their yearly marketing budget and arranging all marketing activity to fall within this whilst giving the brand the level of exposure and interaction that is required for its success. Whilst not a sales-based profession, it is closely linked with sales teams- ultimately without marketers how would anyone know what products and services the organisation have to offer?

WHO ARE THEY AND WHAT THEY’RE LOOKING FOR// We are working with a leading sports organisation who are looking for a PR Manager to develop and initiate a strategic PR plan for the business. We are looking for an experienced individual who has a detailed understanding of the media industry as well as the PR industry. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING// You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day PR output from the organisation, ensuring they secure coverage in regional, national and international media alongside a more strategic aim to the role in developing the annual plan. You will activate the internal communications strategy, working alongside all departments to ensure they are kept up to date with all PR activities. Using your excellent contacts within journalism you will seek to maintain close working relationships with key contacts. Identifying objectives for news coverage, you will seek to gain exposure in the press for these, monitoring them closely. To liaise and present to all members of the department to ensure they are fully briefed on all PR activity. Support the development of any programme in the business for all employees to ensure they understand their responsibilities when representing. Develop and plan PR activities and events that showcase the coverage of the company in a positive manner making sure there is no negatives. It is imperative to attend any meeting that is required by the Director of Communications and contribute to the development of the Communications Department. To exploit, maintain, contribute and develop systems currently used by the company. Give the Communications Department advice and guidance to ensure there is a consistent and timely response to all internal and external stakeholders. Any problems that occur to report it straight to the Director of Communications in case it may have an ongoing effect on the Communications Department. THE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE YOU NEED// Experience in a similar PR or Media role. The capability to produce new ideas within the organisation’s limitations You will have very good relationships with print and broadcast media contacts Exceptional interactive skills including proven experience of persuading individuals and decision makers at all levels. Remarkable written and verbal communication skills. Proven experience of developing and activating PR plans. The ability to create relationships with key stakeholders whether its internal or external as well as manage and maintain the connection. A track record of exceeding goals when meeting deadlines under high pressure. An ability to plan and think strategically. Pro-active approach to day to day issues. Ticket Office Manager


Southend United Football Club is looking to recruit an experienced and skilled full-time Ticket Office Manager. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Reporting to the Head of Commercial, the Ticket Office Manager will be responsible for the efficient and smooth running of the ticket office with a vision to drive the operation forward and deliver a fast-moving, efficient department. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Working closely with the Commercial department to suggest, agree and implement ticket promotions and events to drive matchday attendances and revenues Overseeing and driving the quality and quantity of customer data on the ticketing system Supervising the process of selling matchday tickets (home and away) and season tickets Develop marketing strategies to deliver increasing season ticket and matchday ticket sales Liaise with other clubs to manage and assign ticket allocations for the sale of home and away tickets Managing and supervising Ticket Office staff, and organising recruitment and rotas for matchdays Ensuring quality training for all ticket office staff and keeping the office running smoothly Disability Liaison Officer, ensuring the club is compliant and driving improvements for disabled fans, ensuring training is received for staff where applicable. SKILLS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Have a background of working with IT systems and preferably a good understanding of ticketing and or booking systems Experience working for a ticket office in a stadium/venue or theatre would be advantageous Have experience in the use of CRM systems for marketing purposes Have excellent organisational and customer service skills Able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills Knowledge of spreadsheets and the ability to write reports would be advantageous Able to problem solve and deal with situations in a calm and efficient matter with the ability to work under pressure and prioritise to meet deadlines Highly self-motivated and wish to develop their career Monday – Friday: 9am-5.30pm Home match days: 10am – 3pm and 30 minutes after the match. This is a key role where you will be tasked with securing global branded content and brand partnership deals to generate revenue for the network. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING// · Recognising business development and partnership opportunities with other organisations such as sports rights holders and brands. · Leading the full sales cycle from initial research through to approach, negotiation and closing the deal. · Researching and identifying organisations to target and secure new business with. · Creating proposal and pitch documents. · Working with the data team to accumulate monthly and ad-hoc reporting. · Representing the company at trade and industry events. · You will build a network with other agencies who have access to rights holders. You will also have responsibility for making sure contractual rights are met and you will implement measurement procedures that demonstrate return on partner investment.
